*Neither brand is cruelty-free. Kristin says: Going into this comparison, I would have listed the NARS Audacious lipstick formula as one of my favorites, and one I thought was absolutely worth the price tag. However, comparing it to the Maybelline matte lipsticks absolutely shocked me - enough that I actually tested two sets of these lipsticks against each other (NARS Anita vs. Maybelline Almond Rose, and NARS Anna vs. Maybelline Lust for Blush). Results were the same - the finish and the longevity of these two brands were basically indistinguishable. The feel of the lipsticks is slightly different, with the Maybelline perhaps being a bit drier but not enough to be unpleasant to wear. While the NARS lipsticks are lovely to wear, and a fun splurge, there's no need to spend the extra money here, especially as the Maybelline shades are also spot on color dupes.
