*Neither brand is cruelty-free according to Ethical Elephant. Makeup Maven, Kaleigh, says: MAC Matte Lipstick in the color ‘Diva’ contains .1oz of product and retails for $18.50. Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Lipstick in the color 695 ‘Divine Wine’ contains .15 oz of product and retails for $8.50. The packaging of these products is very different. MAC comes in its signature black bullet casing while Maybelline comes in a traditional lipstick applicator with a red translucent cover. Another visual difference between the two products is the size of the lipstick itself. The Maybelline is slightly longer and thicker and it is apparent that it contains 50% more product than the MAC. Both products are fragrance-free and smell very similar. When applying the lipsticks both have a very smooth and creamy formula and go on beautifully. When put to a transfer test they both had the same effect and did transfer product as you would expect with red lipstick. Both products were a true matte and the colors are truly indistinguishable. When put to the long-wear test both lipsticks performed amazingly. I will say that the MAC did hold up a little better than the Maybelline but not by much. I can confidently say that Maybelline is a sure-fire dupe on this one! This color is absolutely gorgeous and very rich. It would make for the perfect fall staple in your makeup bag.
