Aldi Brand Pastas, Grains, and Breads: Best to Worst

We’ve talked (okay, bragged) about it. We’ve published highlights. We ate all of Aldi to do this. That’s right, you have come to the World’s Most Comprehensive Guide to Aldi Products: Pastas, Grains, and Breads.

It’s time to carb load. We’re coming to you with the pastas, grains, and breads from Aldi.

Barilla Tri-Color Rotini VS. Reggano Tri-Colored Rotini

Mueller's Hearty Homestyle Egg Noodles VS. Reggano Wide Egg Noodles

Similarity Score: 89%

You will notice right away that the Mueller's noodles are wider and have less of a spiral shape than the Reggano noodle. Testers preferred the shape of the store brand noodle because it felt less like eating a sheet of starch and was better for picking up with a fork.

Barilla Elbow Macaroni VS. Reggano Elbow Macaroni

Similarity Score: 88%

These are a similar dupe! The taste matches almost perfectly, with the name brand tasting slightly more of flour. But the name brand has ridges that makes the pasta feel lighter to eat. We like feeling light when we're eating some heavy pasta!

Barilla Angel Hair VS. Reggano Angel Hair

Similarity Score: 88%

Barilla had a slightly stronger smell, taste and appeared to be a bit thinner. The color of the pasta was a bit more appealing. However, it was very difficult for our panel to tell the products apart. This might be an opportunity to save if noodles are simply a transport for the flavor of the sauce you put on it.

Thomas' Everything Bagels VS. L'oven Fresh Everything Bagels

Similarity Score: 87%

Switch to save! The store brand has a stronger garlic smell and thicker bread.

Thomas' Cinnamon Raisin Bagels VS. L'oven Fresh Cinnamon Raisin Bagels

Similarity Score: 84%

The store brand is slightly less airy but we recommend switching to save!

Thomas' Blueberry Bagels VS. L'oven Fresh Blueberry Bagel

Similarity Score: 84%

Switch to save! The blueberry flavoring of the generic is stronger but slightly artificial and the dough tastes like real bread instead of gluten.

All testers said they would switch to Pueblo Lindo. Mission brand has more of a floury taste while also being sweeter. Pueblo Lindo has a smoother texture and more bland taste, but overall very similar to Mission.

Velveeta Shells & Cheese VS. Cheese Club Shells & Cheese

Similarity Score: 79%

The store brand packs a powerful punch of flavor in comparison to the name brand. Cheese Club's cheese sauce is more glossy and tangy. Velveeta's sauce is not as sticky and a little smoother when mixing in with the pasta. Both testers would switch to the store brand.

Buitoni Three Cheese Tortellini VS. Priano Three Cheese Tortellini

Similarity Score: 78%

Great opportunity to switch to save! The Priano tortellini had a slightly different cheese taste but other than that were incredibly similar. Aldi even had fewer calories, saving on all fronts!

Kraft Thick and Creamy Mac and Cheese VS. Cheese Club Mac and Cheese

Similarity Score: 60%

The Aldi Brand was less thick and cheesy and the noodles were less substantial.

Nature's Earthly Choice Quinoa Pasta Blend VS. Live G Free Organic Brown Rice & Quinoa Pasta

Similarity Score: 59%

All reviewers preferred the name brand pasta over Aldi's. The Nature's Earthly Choice gluten free pasta could pass as the real deal while Aldi's was gritty, mushy, and sticky.

Udi's Multigrain Sandwich Bread VS. Live G Free Gluten Free Whole Grain Bread

Similarity Score: 53%

Overall reviewers preferred the Udi's bread because it had a much thicker texture while Aldi's bread was very thin.
