Aldi Brand Household Supplies: Best to Worst

We’ve talked (okay, bragged) about it. We’ve published highlights. We ate all of Aldi to do this. That’s right, you have come to the World’s Most Comprehensive Guide to Aldi Products: Household Supplies.

Why is it that households always seem to be running low on the necessities? From paper towels to sandwich baggies- save on the stuff you have to buy and avoid bad quality products.

Ziploc Freezer Quart Seal Top Bags VS. Boulder Twin Lock Freezer Quart Bags

Similarity Score: 96%

Ziploc had less of a plastic scent and we felt like it was also slightly easier to close. We would like to note that the first Ziploc bag we took out tore immediately when opened. The others were fine. They both hold water securely, and we’d switch to save!

Ziploc Seal Top Storage Gallon Bags VS. Boulder Twin Lock Storage Gallon Bags

Similarity Score: 87%

The Boulder box was easier to open and the Ziploc bags were slightly easier to fasten. But still so similar! We'd definitely switch to save!

Hefty Storage Slider Gallon Bags VS. Boulder Smooth Slide Storage Gallon Bags

Similarity Score: 87%

Boulder felt a little less durable with the bag and sliding function, but it wasn't a deal breaker for us!

Cascade Action Pacs Dish Detergent Fresh Scent VS. Radiance Premium Dishwasher Powder Pacs

Similarity Score: 86%

The reviewer felt these both worked effectively, and did not see much murkiness left behind for either dish cycle. They also smell similarly. The main difference is Cascade has an additional liquid soap layer, while Aldi is just powder.

Dreft Stage 1 Newborn Liquid Detergent VS. Little Journey Baby Laundry Detergent

Similarity Score: 85%

Both washes worked fairly well and left clothes soft and smelling good. Little Journey detergent smelled slightly stronger of baby powder- good if you like that smell, bad if you're trying to minimize scents.

Dixie Ultra Flex-Proof Plates VS. Boulder Ultra Heavy Duty Paper Plates

Similarity Score: 84%

The store brand feels a little flimsy, but can definitely hold some weight on the plate. Not a perfect dupe, but a good opportunity to switch to save.

Charmin Ultra Strong Bathroom Tissue VS. Willow Ultra Strong Bath Tissue

Similarity Score: 81%
Charmin is softer, while Willow is more stiff. Charmin absorbs a little bit better, but we’d still switch to save because of the decent quality of Willow.

Ziploc Slider Quart Storage Bags VS. Boulder Twin Lock Storage Quart Bags

Similarity Score: 80%

Aldi's Boulder puts up a tough fight against Ziploc's Storage Bags. Durable and functional. We believe that it is worth the switch.

Gain Original Laundry Detergent VS. Tanquil Original Laundry Detergent

Similarity Score: 79%

Both detergents cleaned and left our clothes relatively soft. The main difference is smell- if you love that sort of floral Gain smell, you won't get it with Tanquil. The Aldi brand smells more like Sauve shampoo- it's pleasant, but doesn't match that signature Gain scent.

Reynolds Quick Cut Plastic Wrap VS. Boulder Plastic Wrap

Similarity Score: 79%

Reynolds has an amazing functionality for packaging that makes tearing the wrap effortless. Total Home was sort of a nightmare and tore the wrap unevenly. Total Home is also thinner and less durable in comparison, so I don't think I'd switch in this case.

Ziploc Slider Gallon Storage Bags VS. Boulder Smooth Slider Gallon Storage Bags

Similarity Score: 79%

The Ziploc Slider has a viable competitor in the Boulder Smooth Slide. The one thing missing from the generic was the 'stand & fill' function. Our panel would switch to save since the generic held up to a variety of durability tests.

Bounty 2-Ply Paper Towels VS. Boulder Ultra 2-Ply Paper Towels

Similarity Score: 78%

Bounty has more compact rolls, is easier to get started and the smell has a chemical hint. Boulder is not as absorbent as Bounty and our tester recommends sticking with the name brand.

Dixie Everyday Bowl VS. Boulder Heavy Duty Decorative Bowls

Similarity Score: 76%

The store brand is much thicker and durable! A good paper bowl to switch to.

Reynolds Wrap Aluminum Foil VS. Boulder Aluminum Foil

Similarity Score: 74%

Boulder foil immediately tore when unwrapping it and was more difficult to get it to roll out. Just a little annoying so we wouldn’t switch to Boulder brand aluminum foil.

Ziploc Sandwich Bags VS. Boulder Sandwich Bags

Similarity Score: 74%

Closing the Boulder bag is not as seamless as with Ziploc. However, both bags held up to our durability tests well. Durability alone, we would switch to save.

Bounty Napkins Fun Prints VS. Boulder Napkins

Similarity Score: 70%

The store brand napkins are very thin and not as absorbent as the name brand. This may not be an opportunity to save.

Melitta Super Premium Coffee Filters VS. Beaumont Coffee Coffee Filters Basket

Similarity Score: 65%

The Aldi coffee filters are a bust! Literally, they busted on us and were not durable on the way to the trash can.

Sparkle 2-Ply Paper Towels VS. Boulder Classic 2-Ply Paper Towels

Similarity Score: 59%

Boulder is just not as absorbent or resilient in water tests in comparison to Sparkle. Better stick with the name brand on this one.
