Clean & Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Cleanser vs. up&up Deep Clean Exfoliating Scrub

We wanted the generic to work so badly because one Brandefy expert has used Clean & Clear for over ten years, but whatever you do, do not buy the up&up exfoliating scrub!  The generic has a glue-like consistency, completely different ingredients, and a major packaging issue.  Whomp whomp!

We think up&up's package isn't see-through because they don't want us to see how different it truly is... sneaky!

Brandefy compares store brands (i.e. up&up) to name brands (i.e. Clean&Clear) to show you when they are worth the switch and when they are not the same. Our goal is to save you money and time, all while having fun. Check out our ratings page to get a quick view of how store brands stack up.

One Brandefy expert has used Clean&Clear deep action exfoliating scrub on her acne prone skin for over ten years.  While she was nervous to switch her routine, she did it so you do not have to.  The washes look similar, with similar shades of teal and scrubbing beads, but that is about where the similarities end.

The consistency of the up&up brand wash is much thicker and gummier than the Clean&Clear scrub.  It left the face feeling like a layer of gum had been put on, instead of dirt and oil being taken off.  The second time we opened the up&up scrub to give it another shot (and collect more data points), the top broke off and a piece of plastic was stuck in the dispenser.  We could not get any of the wash out.  Some of us at Brandefy can be clumsy, but we promise we opened it in a normal manner.  If you can't get any wash out to use- how much money are you really saving?

We recommend you stick with the name brand on this one!
